Favorite Quotes From Harry Potter

I'm participating in today's Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  This week's prompt is:

Favorite Quotes From Harry Potter

I have a pretty large round up of quotes about books and reading that I feature on my Weekly Words meme, but not very many quotes from books about other things.  So I wasn't really sure how to make this list, since I have no pool to draw from.  When in doubt, think about Harry Potter, right?  So here are my favorite quotes from each of the seven Potter books:

3
"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live."
-J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

“Oh well... I'd just been thinking, if you had died, you'd have been welcome to share my toilet.”
― J.K. RowlingHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

“Besides, the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are.”
― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”
― J.K. RowlingHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

2
“Is it true that you shouted at Professor Umbridge?"
"Yes."
"You called her a liar?"
"Yes."
"You told her He Who Must Not Be Named is back?"
"Yes."
"Have a biscuit, Potter.”
― J.K. RowlingHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

“The thing about growing up with Fred and George," said Ginny thoughtfully, "is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve.”
― J.K. RowlingHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
― J.K. RowlingHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

  1. I almost made my Top Ten Tuesday list an ode to Harry Potter. So many great quotes from those books. But, I only chose two and then chose other books too. My favorite quote that you listed is the first one. I feel like it's the motto to my life.

    1. Way to exercise discipline. It's hard for me not to make every single post an ode to Harry Potter.

Those are absolutely brilliant. I like that you balanced more lighthearted and funny with more sentimental ones. That one from Prisoner of Azkaban has always been one of my favorites though.

Yeah, sometimes it's the funny lines that become my favorites. Agreed on that God people and death eaters quote. That one has always stuck with me.

  • These are great quotes! I've always thought “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” to be so thought provoking.

Yeah, it's kind of a metaphor for the whole story, I think. I imagined everything in my head while reading, but that doesn't make the experience any less real.
