Book-to-Film: TRAILERS for The Martian by Andy Weir and Mockingjay Part 2 by Suzanne Collins

The trailer for the adaptation of Andy Weir's The Martian starring Matt Damon has just been released, and hot dang it looks incredible.  I love this entire cast, though some of the choices were a bit surprising.  (Danny Glover?  Kristen Wiig?  No complaints, but I sure didn't see that SNL-Community-drama film combination coming.  And I kind of like that I'm surprised.)  While a part of me worries that too much information was revealed in this trailer, I'm still super excited to see it.

AND SPEAKING OF EXCITED... I am out of my mind excited for this film.  I have been so pleased with every installment of this Hunger Games adaptation.  It really has renewed my faith in the book-to-film adaptation process.  I feel like it has stayed true to the books' story and themes and messages, while still taking some liberties in order to portray those themes in a way that is unique to film.  Rather than just show the book in movie-form, it has become its own animal, distinct from, but still complimenting, the books.  Very well done, Hunger Games film people.

That being said, this is the film with which I hope they take the most liberties.  I wouldn't mind a few things changed here and there.  So I watched the trailer eagerly, hoping to see what direction this film might take.  And while I'm pretty sure I recognize most events as being taken straight from the book, enough was left out to make me wonder.

Regardless, I will definitely be seeing this film.  And I can't wait.

What about you?  Do these films excite you?  Have you read the books on which these films are based?  Are you looking forward to seeing them?  Tell me your thoughts!

Me neither!! I'm kind of sad that these HG adaptations are ending. I've really enjoyed them a lot more than I ever expected.

I'm not a Matt Damon fan, and I haven't been impressed with the space movies lately, so I don't know if I'll see The Martian.

That would be so fun!! I'll have a newborn by the time Mockingjay is released, so I'll be massively sleep deprived, but I will definitely be seeing it anyway. I'd love to go with you guys!
