THE SERIES SERIES: Series I Still Haven't Gone Back To (And Whether I Ever Will)

Welcome back to the Series Series!  It's been a few days, but series are still on the brain.  Today I'm talking about:

Series I Still Haven't Gone Back To (And Whether I Ever Will)

I'm dividing these series into three groups.  In all three groups I haven't returned to the series since my last Series Series.  But I will return to the series one day in the first group.  In the second group, I'm undecided.  And in the third group, I will not be finishing the series.

Series I Haven't Gone Back To (But I Will!)

Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown
YES!  I'm just waiting for my hold on Mourning Star to come through.

The Game of Throne series by George R.R. Martin
Yes, I will absolutely finish this series.  That is, if Martin publishes the last two books within my lifetime.

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Yes, I will finish this series someday.  I think I'll wait until my kids are older and read it together with them.  So it will be some time before I finish this series, but eventually I will.

Series I Haven't Gone Back To (But I Might!)

Seraphina Duology by Rachel Hartman
(Probably Not.  Seraphina ended on a good note, but it was too little, too late.)

The Lone City Trilogy by Amy Ewing
(Still a Maybe.  The first one was fun brain candy, though there were some pretty significant holes.)

Anna and the French Kiss Trilogy by Stephanie Perkins
(Maybe.  I have to be in a mood for teenage romance before I'll pick any of these up, and that doesn't happen very often.  I'm picky about romance, especially YA romance.)

The Starbound Trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
(Probably not.  I understand the enthusiasm for this series, but I'm not sure it's a great fit for me.)

The Chronos Files Trilogy by Rysa Walker
(Unfortunately No.  The first one was awesome, but it's been too long since I've read it, and I'm not sure I want to reread.  And it would be confusing to go into the second book without a reread, so.)

Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor
(Probably Someday.  This series seems like the perfect story for me.  But I just never read book 2 and now I'm afraid I've forgotten everything.)

Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon
(Maybe.  I liked the first book, but I know a few spoilers that make me hesitate to continue the series.)

Legend Series by Marie Lu
(Probably Not.  The first one was kind of a disappointment.  But I love these covers.)

The Giver Series by Lois Lowry
(Maybe.  The first book was huge in my bookish upbringing, but I kind of want to leave it be rather than adding things to my memories of that story that might change my feelings towards it.)

The Inheritence Series by Christopher Paolini
(Maybe.  I loved the first two books, but Brisingr wasn't out yet at the time and now it's been too long since I've read the first two.)

Series I Haven't Gone Back To (And I Never Will!)

Cruel Beauty Series by Rosamund Hodge
The School For Good and Evil by Soman Chainani
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
His Fair Assassins by Robin LaFevers
Matched Trilogy by Ally Condie
Uglies Series by Scott Westerfeld
The Mara Dyer Trilogy by Michelle Hodkin
The Chemical Garden Series by Lauren DeStephano
The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan
The Maze Runner Series by James Dashner

What series have you shelved (in)definitely?  What makes you stop reading a series?  Any series you're sure you'll go back to, even though a lot of time has passed since reading the first book(s) in that series?

  1. I haven't read Morning Star either! I want to so bad! The ending of Golden Son was SO awful!!!

I LOVE Legend!! The ending is SO great! I love the series!

I think Eragon is worth a reread to finish the series.

Ugh, I know! That Golden Son ending was torturous. I hope my hold comes through soon!
Maybe I'll return to Legend someday. I've only read the first one so far.
I'd like to finish Eragon, but I run into the problem of too many books, too little time. Hopefully I'll find time.

  • I've only shelved a few series that I won't finish. For the most part, I want to finish the ones I've started just because I want to know what happens.

That need for closure is pretty strong for me, too. That's why I finish books that I don't really like. But Somehow I'm okay not finishing a series, even though it takes a lot more for me to not finish a book.

  • I really feel you on ASOIAF. At this point, I feel like I have given up on ever reading the next book. I've been wanting to start Red Rising for a while, so I'm glad to see it's one of the series you want to continue.

    Great series (about series...)! :)

Ha! Thanks! Red Rising is a good one to read while you wait for The Winds of Winter. It has a lot of action and political scheming that you might like if you enjoy ASOIAF.

  • Interesting seeing whether you'll read the rest of these or not. I always want to read the rest idea series when I start it just because but I really should probably walk away more often than I do.

I still do that sometimes too, but I'm trying to be more selective about what I read these days, which means saying goodbye to anything I don't love.
